Hearing Healthcare at Contentment Hearing Care
Hearing loss is incredibly common, affecting over 48 million Americans. Hearing loss makes it difficult to hear sound in one or both ears and can be caused by a variety of factors. It’s important to visit us at Contentment Hearing Care at the first signs of hearing loss so we can perform a hearing check and find you a solution.
When left untreated, hearing loss not only makes it harder to hear, but to communicate as well. If your hearing loss goes untreated for a long time, then you will start to lose your speech comprehension and could even experience cognitive decline.
Hearing and Brain Health
Your hearing is a vital part of your overall health and overall well-being. When you can’t hear well, your brain doesn’t receive the proper stimulation it needs to remain active and healthy. It’s important to treat any signs of hearing loss immediately in order to preserve your cognitive functioning and to continue communicating with the people you love.
Signs of Hearing Loss
Hearing loss often occurs gradually, over the course of a few years. If your hearing has declined naturally over a long period of time, then you may not even notice that you have hearing loss because your brain has adjusted to not hearing certain sounds. Usually, a close friend or family member will be the first one to notice the signs of hearing loss.
Below are some common signs of hearing loss. If you have experienced any of the following, then you should make an appointment for a hearing exam.
- You have muffled hearing or sounds seem distorted
- People seem to mumble when they talk to you
- You have a hard time understanding the conversation when there is background noise
- You often have to ask people to repeat themselves
- You turn the TV volume up higher than others
Tinnitus
Tinnitus, also known as “ringing in the ears,” is very common. It can be described in many ways as it affects everyone differently. Tinnitus is a dysfunction of the auditory processing area of the brain. It is often associated with hearing loss, but not always. There are different severity levels of tinnitus. To most people it is just annoying, but to others it can be debilitating.
There are many types of products on the market that can relieve tinnitus. Of course, every person is different and will get different results. If you have tinnitus, we will go over together what may be causing the ringing in your ears and help you find a solution.
